How To Update A Minecraft Server

To update a Minecraft server, create a folder, select the files you want to keep, except logs, eula and Old Server, then place them in that folder. Select the files you want to delete. Next, download Minecraft server executables from the official site. Place the new server executable into the old folder. Open the text document and change the line to 'eula=true'.  rock it like a hurricane Finally, take you files from your new folder you made and copy them back to where they came from.

Step by Step Guide

You won't need to modify the Minecraft server's software - that is, the.jar/.exe file. This will ensure your world and other settings are transferred to your new server.

Navigate to the files of your Minecraft server. Where the properties files are located and where the main executable is kept.

You can create a new folder. It can be called anything you like, but it will only be used to update the server.

These files are: the world' folder, banned ips' JSON file, banned players' json File, ops' json File, ’server' properties file, 'usercache’ json File, and a 'whitelist’ json. Place them into the new folder you just created.

Now you're left with a folder titled 'logs', a text document titled 'eula', and the main server executable. Select and delete these as these are all files exclusive to your old server version and will be replaced when updating.

Navigate to the Minecraft website and download the latest Minecraft server executable from there.

Run the new server executable in the same folder as your old server files.

The server won't start. Instead it will create new files from the files you've deleted, as well as a server' properties file.

Open the text file titled 'eula.' Change the line that says 'eula=false’ to 'eula=true. This is Minecraft's End User License Agreement and must be agreed to before your Minecraft server will run.

Once your server is up and running, copy your files to the new folder. Keep an extra copy of your files in that folder in case something goes wrong.

You should replace any files in this folder. Once everything is done, you can start the server executable.

It will display the normal server window, and then load your world. Your Minecraft server has been updated!
